Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) plays a vital role in assisting healthcare professionals by performing various care activities and related nonclinical services. This position provides support to Registered Nurses (RNs) and/or Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in delivering patient care, including caring for personal needs and comfort of patients and family units in a professional, courteous, and supportive manner, under the general supervision of the Patient Care Manager or their designee.

Duties and Essential Functions
  • Assists RN/LPN with non-nursing tasks such as crash cart checks, quality control checks, retrieving equipment/supplies, and maintaining a clean and stocked department.
  • Assists RN/LPN with routine patient care and treatment, including vital signs, intake/output, pain level assessment, administering enemas, applying hot/cold packs, and transporting patients.
  • Recognizes and practices within scope of certification and competency levels, relaying any questions, concerns, or situations requiring follow-up or attention to the supervising RN/LPN and seeking assistance when necessary.
  • Effectively communicates pertinent information in shift-to-shift and transfer reports and documents items in EPIC as indicated.
Education/License/Certification/Other Requirements
  • Minimum requirement: High School diploma or GED and completion of an approved State Registered Nursing Assistant Program, such as SRNA, STNA, CNA, or other state.
  • Holds current certification as a State Registered Nursing Assistant (SRNA) in the State of Kentucky.
  • Accepts Ohio STNA, WV CNA, and other State Registered Nursing Assistant/Aide Certifications if transferred to KY SRNA prior to hire date.
  • Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Achieves and maintains Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) within 90 days of start.
Working Environment

Constantly works near moving mechanical parts, exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection, and occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of radiation.

Physical Demands
  • Occasionally required to maintain a stationary position (standing or sitting).
  • Frequently required to walk and move about, operate a computer and other equipment, and use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
  • Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds, frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds, and occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
  • Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.
