Occupational Summary:

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician is accountable for identifying issues and executing mechanical repairs and upkeep of mining plant production machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily assessments of workplace safety hazards and report any identified issues.
  • Perform routine inspections on all stationary and mobile machinery.
  • Ensure the functionality of mechanical systems by diagnosing and rectifying malfunctions in various rotating and conveyor systems, including pumps, elevators, and material handling equipment, by adhering to diagrams, operational manuals, and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Utilize welding skills across the site, performing repairs with welding and cutting equipment in compliance with safety and performance standards.
  • Maintain and repair stationary machinery, such as conveyor systems, processing screens, water pumps, and hydraulic systems.
  • Monitor mechanical devices in operation, employing all senses to detect issues through sound, motion, and vibration.
  • Coordinate with Millwrights to align maintenance functions with overall plant operations, preparing and managing parts lists as necessary.
  • Dismantle machinery to access and replace defective components using hoists, cranes, and hand tools.
  • Inspect used parts to determine dimensional changes using measuring instruments.
  • Maintain an inventory of replacement parts and supplies in the company's maintenance management system.
  • Adhere to the preventative maintenance program for all equipment, documenting tasks as required.
  • Operate mobile equipment, including forklifts and man-lifts, while following safety protocols.
  • Comply with all safety regulations, including lock-out/tag-out procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in maintenance is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in a maintenance role.
  • Experience in milling, cement processing, or a related industry is advantageous.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to repair hydraulic systems, motors, and gearboxes.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics.
  • Strong welding skills; certification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with various metals and welding techniques.
  • Ability to interpret process flow diagrams and piping instrumentation diagrams.
  • Crane certification is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Excellent organizational and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong teamwork and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic math and computer skills.

Work Environment:

  • Must be physically capable of accessing all areas of the plant, including heights and confined spaces.
  • Personal protective equipment is required regularly, including hard hats and safety footwear.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, and various atmospheric conditions is expected.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds is necessary.
