Position Overview

Location: Stockton, California

The role entails overseeing the safe and efficient operation of the generating facility while managing maintenance personnel. Under the guidance of the Assistant Plant Manager, this position involves direct supervision and leadership of the maintenance team. Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, and supervising predictive, preventative, corrective, and overhaul maintenance for all power plant equipment.

This position is crucial in ensuring that the plant operates reliably, safely, and in compliance with environmental regulations. The incumbent will exercise independent judgment within established policies and practices, with performance evaluated based on goal achievement and adherence to standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the plant operates safely and complies with all regulatory requirements.
  • Direct maintenance personnel and contractors to maintain plant reliability and efficiency.
  • Manage the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) work order program to optimize resource allocation.
  • Schedule and oversee preventive and predictive maintenance according to equipment requirements.
  • Continuously assess and enhance maintenance processes, ensuring personnel are trained and adhere to industry standards.
  • Evaluate, schedule, and budget maintenance activities to optimize cost-effectiveness and minimize downtime.
  • Conduct performance reviews and align employee responsibilities with maintenance processes.
  • Investigate operational anomalies to enhance equipment performance and reduce maintenance needs.
  • Prepare maintenance reports and investigate forced outages promptly.
  • Collaborate with management and administrative staff to maintain effective communication.
  • Supervise overhauls of plant equipment and systems by external contractors or plant staff.
  • Provide input on spare parts inventory aligned with maintenance requirements.
  • Establish departmental goals based on stakeholder needs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 6 years of supervisory experience in a solid fuel-fired power plant, or
  • Associate degree or industry-recognized certificate in a related field with at least 4 years of supervisory experience, or
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline with a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with wood-fired CFB boilers and steam turbine generators.
  • Strong understanding of power plant operations and maintenance functions.
  • Knowledge of steam turbine technology, mechanics, hydraulics, electricity, and electronics.
  • Experience managing skilled trades personnel.
  • Understanding of accounting systems related to work orders and budget analysis.
  • Ability to analyze complex maintenance issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications and maintenance management software.

Physical Demands

This role requires a combination of administrative and field support, including:

  • Frequent sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods.
  • Climbing stairs and ladders, and maneuvering in various positions.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Effective communication and coordination of tasks.

Working Conditions
