Job Summary:

The University of Idaho is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Environmental Health and Safety Specialist II to join our team. As a key member of our environmental health and safety team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the university's compliance with state and federal laws and regulations related to hazardous waste management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing the university's hazardous waste and used oil programs, including interpreting state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Provide assistance in the handling, use, storage, and characteristics of hazardous materials, ensuring compliance with procedures for collecting, preparing for transport, and disposal.
  • Respond to emergencies involving hazardous materials in a timely and effective manner.
  • Collaborate with university departments to ensure compliance with environmental health and safety regulations.
  • Develop and implement procedures for managing hazardous waste and used oil programs.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as environmental science, safety, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in environmental health and safety, hazardous materials management, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to hazardous waste management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
