The Lumber Sales Specialist will collaborate closely with the receiving, order, and dispatch teams. A commitment to delivering exceptional customer service to both retail and contracting clientele is essential. This role demands a professional demeanor, a positive attitude, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should be adept at engaging with customers and colleagues, and possess the skills to identify optimal solutions for customer product inquiries. Experience in lumber, building supplies, or construction is advantageous, as is the capability to operate forklifts and other specialized vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service Excellence:

  • Proactively engage with customers in the lumber yard.
  • Provide a warm welcome, maintain eye contact, and express enthusiasm.
  • Manage multiple customer interactions simultaneously when required.
  • Express gratitude to customers for choosing our services.

Product Expertise:

  • Respond to inquiries regarding lumber and building materials.
  • Assist customers with special order pickups.
  • Continuously enhance product knowledge.
  • Discuss various product options (good, better, best).

Order Fulfillment and Direction:

  • Perform daily stock tasks including order assembly, product stocking, and truck unloading.
  • Demonstrate adaptability to direction, multitasking, and manage heavy workloads efficiently.
  • Contribute to warehouse cleanliness and organization.

Personal and Customer Skills Development:

  • Strive to learn something new each day.
  • Actively seek knowledge about all products and services.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of products available in the lumber yard.

Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures while operating company vehicles.
  • Assist as a spotter or lifting aide when necessary.
  • Take initiative if observing unsafe practices among colleagues.

Policy Adherence:

  • Implement measures to minimize shrinkage.
  • Treat all associates and customers with respect, aligning with company goals and philosophy.

Physical Requirements:

  • Engage in bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving items.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs without assistance.
  • Respond to radio calls and customer service inquiries.
  • Move throughout the store to assist customers.
  • Identify and read sales orders, picking tickets, product labels, and UPC labels.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a drug test.
  • Pass a background check.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule.
