Smart Manufacturing and Project Coordination Specialist

At Montana Tech, we are seeking a talented Smart Manufacturing and Project Coordination Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of a one-year academic certificate program in Smart Manufacturing to be offered at Highlands College. This will include conducting a needs assessment, developing strategic industry partnerships, and working closely with the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center and regional business advisors to develop and implement the program. Some of the key responsibilities of this role include working closely with regional business advisors to develop and conduct needs assessments, developing strategic industry partnerships with Montana’s manufacturers, and designing and implementing the one-year certificate program. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited college or university, or a minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in improving manufacturing operations through digitization and automation. The candidate should also have demonstrated knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, ladder logic, electronics, control systems, sensors, motors, industrial machinery design, PLC control systems, robotics, CNC machining, CAD/CAM, additive manufacturing, visual control systems, and OSHA requirements. Key Responsibilities:
• Work closely with regional business advisors to develop and conduct needs assessments
• Develop strategic industry partnerships with Montana’s manufacturers
• Design and implement the one-year certificate program
• Develop strategic partnerships with machinery, automation, and technology providers that will benefit Montana’s manufacturers
• Write and review reports, and track and report project progress
• Develop appropriate educational materials and present public training workshops and technology demonstrations
• Attend all required meetings with MMEC and the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ)
• In collaboration with MMEC’s marketing team, write articles for newsletter as needed
• Work closely with Highlands College team to foster an environment conducive to learning
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited college or university, or a minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in improving manufacturing operations through digitization and automation
• Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, ladder logic, electronics, control systems, sensors, motors, industrial machinery design, PLC control systems, robotics, CNC machining, CAD/CAM, additive manufacturing, visual control systems, and OSHA requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university
• Experience working with the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center and regional business advisors
