Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Support Specialist to join our team at Eastern Connecticut Health Network. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in creating a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.

About the Role: The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and implementing skill training and theme-specific groups to improve patient functioning. You will also assist patients with daily living activities, such as bathing, feeding, and dressing, while maintaining a caring and compassionate environment.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of a high school degree or GED equivalent is required; an Associate's degree in psychology or human services is preferred.
  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support is mandatory, along with training in PMT and de-escalation techniques within six months of hire.
  • Prior experience working with psychiatric populations is desirable.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, ability to multitask, and exceptional interpersonal skills are essential.

Working Conditions: This role requires working in an environment where rapid response to emergency codes is necessary. You must be capable of taking swift and efficient action, including patient restraint when required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment through appropriate interventions and observation of patients.
  • Contribute to fluctuating staffing needs by adjusting scheduled hours and assignments according to departmental requirements.
  • Demonstrate clinical perceptiveness, empathy, and interpersonal warmth through supervisor and peer feedback on satisfaction surveys.
  • Facilitate skill development by planning and implementing program groups that enhance patient functioning.
  • Effectively manage violent situations using Physical Management Training (PMT) techniques.

Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
