About the Role

The Senior Communications & Media Coordinator will use mass communication to advance the Augusta University brand and support institutional priorities by connecting faculty, staff, students, the community, and other stakeholders to the university's strategic plan pillars and goals. The position identifies stories about university initiatives, accomplishments, and achievements that warrant internal or external promotion and conceptualizes and produces compelling print and multimedia content for digital platforms that include writing, video, photos, and graphics.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Communications & Media Coordinator will serve as a liaison for institutional priority areas to proactively communicate news of interest to the broader community, prepare AU experts for interviews, and help hone clear, effective messaging and staffing interviews. The position will work with local, regional, and national media to obtain news coverage for the university, craft media pitches and news releases, and coordinate news coverage for events. The Senior Communications & Media Coordinator will also maintain current digital and media relations knowledge, use a project management system to document and track projects, and perform all other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field and five years of professional communications experience. Prior experience in media, education, or health care is also preferred. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, be detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills, and be proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. The position requires the ability to think strategically about how AU's mission and expertise might align with, influence, or support world affairs and experience with media monitoring software is a plus. The Senior Communications & Media Coordinator will also be a creative and enthusiastic team player with relationships with development journalists a plus and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
