Pharmacy Technician, Certified or Trainee

The University of Iowa Department of Pharmaceutical Care is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician to support our team. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will work under the supervision of pharmacists and technicians to coordinate and perform technical activities in dispensing areas. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities- Process prescriptions in an Ambulatory-based pharmacy system, ensuring accuracy and correct labeling.
- Coordinate services with other UIHC Pharmacies, maintaining effective communication and workflow.
- Work closely with Investigational Drug Service staff and interdisciplinary staff to accurately fulfill orders with a high level of attention to detail and focus on superior customer service.
- Provide patient/customer service, communicating with patients, study monitors, and other healthcare personnel in accordance with established guidelines.
- Compound sterile products according to USP 797 and USP 800 standards, maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Perform maintenance activities for compounding equipment and designated areas, ensuring compliance with SOPs.
- Maintain temperature monitoring system records for received shipments and investigational medications stored in the pharmacy and other locations throughout the hospital.
- Order, receive, and document product shipments appropriately, ensuring accurate inventory management.
- Generate and/or maintain records related to studies, including filing and auditing.
- Perform inventory maintenance activities, ensuring inventory is completed according to policy and conducting weekly and monthly inventory counts as instructed.
- Participate in site qualification visits and other required sponsor training, maintaining compliance with all competencies and educational requirements.
- Registered with the Pharmacy Board at the time of hire.
- National certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), with ongoing education requirements and maintenance of certification.
- High school diploma or the equivalent.
- Experience: Any combination of two years of post-high school experience and/or education in the natural sciences, or satisfactory completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program.
- Experience with Public Contact/Customer Service.
- Ability to perform ratio/proportion equations.
- Experience with inventory maintenance activities.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Experience working in a detail-oriented work environment.
- Knowledge of windows-based computer programs.
- Experience working in an environment requiring accuracy.
- Experience working in healthcare with one-on-one patient interaction and experience handling challenging interactions in a work environment.
- Prefer National Career Readiness Certificate at Silver Level.
