Position Overview:
The City of Fort Lauderdale seeks dedicated professionals who demonstrate a commitment to public service through enthusiasm, independence, and expertise.

Employees in this role will effectively communicate the organization's vision and mission while delivering exceptional service to both internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
This position involves significant financial, administrative, and supervisory tasks in support of the Chief Accountant, Controller, or Treasurer. Duties encompass:

  • Executing advanced accounting functions, including general ledger reconciliation, financial reporting, audit preparation, grant reporting, and payroll management.
  • Conducting thorough reviews of financial reports for upper management and other departments.
  • Preparing monthly account reconciliations to ensure accurate recording of transactions.
  • Assisting with internal and external audits by gathering necessary documentation and providing explanations of departmental policies.
  • Creating journal entries and account adjustments to maintain accuracy and completeness.
  • Preparing detailed financial statements and supporting documentation for the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
  • Researching and resolving financial discrepancies and inquiries.
  • Ensuring timely payment of payroll taxes.
  • Participating in the development and monitoring of citywide and departmental budgets.
  • Collaborating with the Information Technology Services Department on the design and implementation of financial management systems.
  • Analyzing existing processes to recommend improvements for efficient fiscal management.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field is required, along with three to five years of professional accounting or fiscal management experience, including two years in governmental accounting or auditing.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in local government accounting or fiscal management is highly desirable.

Special Requirements:
Essential Employees may be required to work during emergencies as determined by the Department Head.

Physical Requirements:
This position is primarily sedentary, with employees sitting for extended periods but may require brief periods of walking or standing.
