Position Overview:
The Pediatric Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) will deliver acute inpatient care to children from infancy through young adulthood. This role involves developing and maintaining collaborative agreements with physicians as part of the credentialing process and as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize advanced clinical knowledge and skills in pediatrics to fulfill the APRN role for a designated group of inpatients, focusing on health promotion, disease prevention, and chronic disease management. Perform medical functions as outlined in established protocols and collaborative agreements, ensuring accurate documentation and billing for assigned patients.
  • Exhibit advanced clinical judgment and competence aligned with evidence-based practices in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for identified patients. Monitor clinical outcomes to enhance care quality and adjust care plans as necessary.
  • Facilitate teamwork with the multidisciplinary group to create a comprehensive assessment and treatment plan. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care and advocate for patients' needs.
  • Incorporate educational responsibilities into clinical practice by providing patient education, assessing learning needs, and evaluating the achievement of learning objectives. Support staff in delivering education to patients and families.
  • Encourage the professional development of nursing staff by offering continuing education opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in specific clinical areas. Provide leadership support to new practitioners and nursing students.
  • Consult on pediatric clinical practices and disease management within the organization, serving as a resource for the community.
  • Engage in professional organizations related to pediatric nursing.
  • Act as a role model and informal leader within the nursing team.
  • Demonstrate research competence by utilizing research studies to inform clinical practice, participating in research initiatives, and communicating findings to nursing staff.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Establish diagnoses for common acute and chronic health conditions.
  • Order and follow up on laboratory and radiologic tests in a timely manner.
  • Implement therapeutic or corrective measures as required.
  • Prescribe medications as appropriate.
  • Consult with or refer patients to licensed physicians or other healthcare providers as needed.
  • Review laboratory results and follow up on those requiring intervention.
  • Document all findings accurately in the electronic medical records system, ensuring timely entries.
  • Stay informed about evidence-based practices and standards of care.
  • Assist in the education of patients, nursing staff, and other clinical team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Master’s Degree; training as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • License: Current Illinois Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN) license.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years as an APRN, with a preference for pediatric experience.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal abilities, and demonstrated expertise in pediatric patient care. Active membership in a relevant professional organization is preferred.
  • Certifications: CPR certification from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross; Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is preferred.
