Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Scientist position plays a critical role in supporting the diagnosis and treatment of patients by performing a wide range of technical procedures analyzing blood and various other body fluids.

Key Responsibilities
  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, acceptability, processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
  • Adhere to laboratory quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
  • Maintain records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Follow accrediting agency standards, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Participate in safety training sessions and identify and report any safety hazards or concerns.
  • Successfully complete department-specific competencies and perform teaching and training duties.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or a related science.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by one of the following accrediting agencies: American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or Department of Health, Education & Welfare/US Department of Health & Human Services (HEW/HHS).
  • Minimum one (1) year of lab experience as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist.
