Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Histocompatibility Medical Laboratory Scientist II to join our team at UofL Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a wide range of technical procedures analyzing blood and various body fluids to expedite the physician's diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine patient testing and STAT testing, ensuring technical competency and critical thinking to prevent errors that could result in serious consequences to patients.
  • Record and document patient data in the proper areas, maintaining confidentiality and respecting patient rights.
  • Assist with quality audits in accordance with accrediting agencies, ensuring compliance with laboratory procedures and standards.
  • Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality and maintain records of quality control activities.
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
  • Adhere to laboratory quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
  • Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Follow accrediting agency standards, including CAP, AABB, FDA, CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, Joint Commission, and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain a safe work environment, wear appropriate personal protective equipment, and participate in safety training sessions.
  • Perform employee training, instrument maintenance, function checks, and direct observation to determine competency.
  • Provide teaching and education to clinical laboratory scientist students and other laboratory or hospital personnel.
  • Successfully complete department-specific competencies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or a related science.
  • Minimum one year of lab experience as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by one of the following accrediting agencies: American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or Department of Health, Education & Welfare/US Department of Health & Human Services (HEW/HHS).
  • Additional certification by one of the following accrediting agencies is preferred: Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) or Certified Histocompatibility Specialist (CHS).
