Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Michigan Ag Council Manager. This key role will be responsible for driving and facilitating strategic initiatives of the Michigan Ag Council (MAC) and its member/partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the MAC strategic plan, including enrolling partners, developing measurement metrics, and driving programming to achieve goals.
  • Create and execute an annual plan of work to meet the MAC's strategic priorities and goals.
  • Develop and execute fundraising strategies that align with the council's strategic direction and financial needs.
  • Administer bi-monthly council meetings, including managing meeting logistics, preparing board packets, taking minutes, and handling follow-up communication.
  • Manage outside consultants and/or agencies to develop and implement educational and promotional materials, programs, and events consistent with the MAC mission and strategic plan.
  • Oversee MAC events in alignment with strategic goals, including site review and selection, vendor management, sponsor engagement, and benefit delivery.
  • Direct, develop, and disseminate an editorial calendar using new and existing MAC communication vehicles to build brand awareness of Michigan GROWN, Michigan GREAT, and meaningfully connect with consumers.
  • Supervise, negotiate contracts, and hold consultants and/or agencies accountable for maintaining and continually updating and enhancing the MAC website, digital presence, social media channels, e-newsletter, farmer training resources, and new and existing MAC communication vehicles.
  • Develop and implement a stewardship plan to showcase the value of MAC partnership to existing partners and their stakeholders/boards to maintain financial support of the council.
  • Manage, prepare, and administer the annual MAC budget for activities, work with the Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) Accounting Department in monitoring monthly expenses, and report variances.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture, communication, or public relations required, or equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of Michigan agriculture required.
  • Current computer and social media skills required.
  • Three to five years' experience in marketing and/or the agricultural industry required.
  • Experience in association management, working with and training volunteers, nonprofits, fundraising, marketing, or advertising preferred.
  • Experience working with farmers preferred.
  • Coursework in business, marketing, or related field preferred.
