Position Overview

Peraton is in search of a Facilities Operations/Controls Engineer to contribute to our mission supporting the NASA Glenn Engineering and Research Support (GEARS) Contract team. As a key collaborator, Peraton provides comprehensive engineering services aimed at maintaining and enhancing the facilities at the NASA John Glenn Research Center.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will engage in a collaborative, team-oriented environment as part of our facility engineering and design group. Your primary focus will be to deliver System Engineering support for the management of the NASA Glenn Research Center's Institutional Monitoring Control System (GIMCS). This encompasses the existing Energy Management Control System (EMCS), Chiller Plants, Steam Plant, and Fire Alarm Systems, necessitating engineering expertise to ensure optimal system functionality. You will interact directly with NASA stakeholders to assess and fulfill their evolving requirements.

Your specific duties will include:
  • Developing system software engineering solutions for both new and existing subsystems, identifying software needs for Operator Consoles, and managing program development and debugging.
  • Providing controls engineering for the design and support of maintenance and infrastructure enhancement projects related to GIMCS.
  • Offering support for daily system operations, including troubleshooting and field investigations as issues arise.
  • Conducting engineering analyses and studies on system issues, including failure analyses and outage responses.
  • Performing regular system condition assessments, hazard analyses, and reliability evaluations.
  • Collaborating with system managers, operators, and field technicians to optimize GIMCS performance.
  • Coordinating with NASA GRC PSS regarding signal interactions between EMCS and Fire Alarm Systems, while clarifying design responsibilities.
  • Assisting with system startups, including the creation of Integrated System Test (IST) plans and verification of operational checklists.
  • Supporting system administration and management on IT security assessment initiatives.
  • Contributing to GIMCS RCM and CBM activities, including setting monitoring points and generating reports.
  • Participating in technical discussions to identify performance challenges, develop corrective procedures, and recommend modifications.
  • Documenting procedures for all technical aspects of assigned tasks.
  • Overseeing electrical construction activities in the field.
Qualifications

Required Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Systems Engineering or Engineering Technology with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; alternatively, 9+ years of applicable experience and technical training may be considered without a degree.
  • 5-7 years of experience in engineering facility systems and controls.
  • Proficiency in building Automation Controls, including HVAC operations and lighting controls.
  • Experience with Chiller Plant Controls and Cooling Towers.
  • Background in building operations, alarm management, and scheduling.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD design software (current version is AutoCAD 2019).
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a government background investigation.
Desired Experience:
  • Knowledge of computer programming related to distributed control systems, specifically Siemens Building Automation System.
  • Experience with Siemens Insight and Desigo design and programming, as well as PXCM controllers and PPCL programming.
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley Control Systems and their integration with Siemens.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Experience across multiple engineering disciplines, including Mechanical, Electrical, and System Software Controls.
