Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Engineer to join our team at Naval Air Systems Command. As a key member of our Systems Acquisition Group, Human Systems Engineering Department, you will play a critical role in the development and implementation of complex systems and technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and direction for the department's S and T, RDT and E portfolios related to modeling & simulation.
  • Develop and apply technical expertise to formulate, implement, and guide programs responsive to emerging capabilities in areas such as non-linear, dynamic finite element modeling, digital twins, and occupant protection.
  • Maintain awareness of newly developing modeling and simulation capabilities and their potential impact on future aircraft procurement or capability enhancement.
  • Participate in professional, scientific symposia, and working groups within the scientific area.
  • Make technical presentations at conferences and at the highest level of the Navy, DoD, other federal agencies, and international meetings.
Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12/13 grade level or pay band DP-04 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer.

Specialized experience should include:

  • Application of dynamic, non-linear structural and human body models using commercial software such as LS-DYNA.
  • In-depth knowledge of crashworthy and escape systems in USN aircraft, injury biomechanics, and injury protection.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise for the purpose of facilitating the development of complex finite element models.

Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements:

  • Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
  • Program must lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
  • Program must include differential and integral calculus and courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics:
    • Statics, dynamics.
    • Strength of materials (stress-strain relationships).
    • Fluid mechanics, hydraulics.
    • Thermodynamics.
    • Electrical fields and circuits.
    • Nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties).
    • Any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics.

OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration.
