Position Title: Orthopedic and Hand Surgery Specialist
Location: Cranston, Cumberland, and East Providence RI

University Orthopedics (UOI) is seeking a dedicated Orthopedic and Hand Surgery Specialist to enhance our expanding musculoskeletal care team. This role involves becoming part of a collaborative group of six physicians serving multiple healthcare facilities while connecting with the broader UOI network of 69 providers. Patient consultations will occur during office hours at our Cranston and Cumberland locations, with surgical interventions taking place at affiliated hospitals and our specialized surgery center. On-call duties for General Orthopedics at designated facilities are integral to this position.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform comprehensive evaluations and diagnose conditions pertaining to the hand, wrist, and forearm.
  • Execute surgical interventions for hand and upper extremity disorders, including fractures, ligament damage, tendon repairs, and nerve decompression, along with acute management of general orthopedic emergencies.
  • Oversee both acute and chronic hand conditions, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, arthritis, and congenital issues.
  • Deliver preoperative and postoperative care to ensure optimal patient recovery and rehabilitation.
  • Inform patients and their families about their conditions, available treatment options, and symptom management strategies.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide holistic patient care.
  • Maintain precise and current medical documentation, including patient histories, examination results, diagnoses, treatment plans, and progress notes.
  • Engage in the education of medical students, physician assistant students, orthopedic residents, and hand surgery fellows, with potential for an academic appointment at the Warren Albert Medical School of Brown University based on individual commitment and responsibilities.
Qualifications:
  • Medical degree (MD or DO) with completion of an Orthopedic Surgery residency.
  • Fellowship training in Hand Surgery.
  • Board eligible or board certified in both Orthopedic Surgery and Hand Surgery.
  • Possession of a valid state medical license.
  • Strong clinical expertise with a dedication to exceptional patient care.
  • Preferred experience in both general orthopedics and hand surgery.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Capacity to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
