Position Overview

The Pulmonary Function Technologist is responsible for conducting diagnostic assessments to evaluate patients' respiratory health and identify respiratory conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct a range of pulmonary function tests, including spirometry, lung volume assessments, and diffusion capacity evaluations.
  2. Guide patients and their families on effective breathing techniques while ensuring comfort during testing.
  3. Calibrate and maintain testing equipment to guarantee precise and dependable results.
  4. Work collaboratively with pulmonologists and healthcare providers to analyze test outcomes and contribute to comprehensive patient care strategies.
  5. Accurately document patient data, test results, and relevant information in the electronic medical record system.
  6. Provide education to patients and families regarding respiratory health, treatment alternatives, and lifestyle changes.
  7. Adhere to established protocols and safety standards to maintain a secure testing environment.
  8. Engage in departmental quality improvement initiatives and demonstrate proficiency in pulmonary function testing software.
  9. Exhibit the necessary knowledge and skills to address the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of patients across all age groups.
  10. Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Technical Expertise: Experience in managing asthma patients, particularly in a pediatric pulmonary function testing setting, is preferred.
  • Membership in the American Thoracic Society (ATS) is advantageous.
  • Experience interacting with various organizational levels is essential.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities are necessary.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar applications is required.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record systems (e.g., EPIC) is preferred.
Education and Experience
  • Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Respiratory Care.
  • Credentials: Registered Respiratory Therapist certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care in Ohio is mandatory.
  • Licensure: Licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) in Ohio is required.
  • Certifications: Current Health Care Provider BLS training is required; CPFT or RPFT, PALS, and ACLS certifications must be obtained within one year of hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years of experience as a pediatric RRT is preferred, particularly in a pediatric pulmonary function testing lab.
  • Supervisory Experience: None required.
