SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Educational Technology Specialist delivers essential technical assistance and training to faculty, staff, and students in utilizing University-supported instructional technologies for various course formats including face-to-face, online, blended, and hyflex. In collaboration with team members, the incumbent plays a vital role in the deployment, implementation, and maintenance of both online and classroom-based technologies that support educational practices. The Educational Technology Specialist assesses emerging technologies to enhance the University's instructional capabilities and actively seeks to refine workflows and processes for greater efficiency. Exceptional customer service is provided to the campus community in alignment with the academic and research mission.

This role adheres to the University’s best practices aimed at fostering student academic success and retention, contributing to strategic goals for persistence and timely graduation across the student body.

EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates with the Instructional Development team to train and support faculty in the effective use of the campus Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Works closely with team members to provide functional direction in the administration and training of both classroom-based and online instructional technologies.
  • Offers direct technical support to faculty, staff, and students regarding all campus-supported instructional tools and services.
  • Assists in evaluating and testing new technologies, services, and trends in higher education.
  • Develops text and video-based support materials for instructional technology tools used on campus.
  • Conducts training sessions and workshops for faculty and staff on instructional technologies as required.
  • Supports the Instructional Development team in achieving ADA compliance for course sites and instructional technology tools.
  • Encourages and facilitates the use of educational technologies throughout the campus.
  • Proactively collaborates with Instructional Development and IT Service Center staff to ensure excellent customer service.
  • Assists in organizing IT-related campus events, seminars, and conferences.
  • Logs inquiries in the IT case management system, ensuring resolution in partnership with the CITS Service Center team.
  • Engages with customers to identify their technology needs and priorities.
  • Documents work processes and issue resolutions for future reference.
  • Promotes cross-team collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned, with the understanding that the job description may evolve to meet organizational needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in any field.
  • EXPERIENCE:
    • Over 3 years of demonstrated experience supporting classroom-based and/or online instructional technologies.
    • More than 1 year of experience working within a case management system.
  • OTHER:
    • Availability for off-hours, evenings, and/or weekends as project demands dictate.
    • Ability to lift and move technology equipment.
    • Some travel may be necessary.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to information technology.
  • Significant experience (over 5 years) in higher education working with classroom-based and/or online instructional technologies.
