Position Overview: Solar Electrician, Install Lead

Sunnova Energy is in search of a Solar Electrician, Install Lead. This role focuses on the installation of battery systems on pre-existing solar installations. The primary duty of the Solar Electrician, Install Lead is to ensure that these systems are installed in compliance with all standards, quality benchmarks, and performance metrics while delivering exceptional customer service.

The ideal candidate must adhere to all safety protocols, demonstrate adaptability, possess strong communication skills, and be comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively with homeowners. Familiarity with standard electrical practices, the ability to interpret electrical schematics, and maintaining inventory for vehicle stock are essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and maintain battery storage systems and electric vehicle chargers in accordance with engineering specifications, permits, and electrical codes.
  • Conduct site evaluations, documenting all pertinent information to facilitate installation.
  • Provide service reports promptly after completing work orders.
  • Work closely with manufacturers and engineering teams to troubleshoot technical challenges.
  • Apply knowledge and skills with electrical testing tools to commission systems and diagnose issues.
  • Identify solutions for technical design challenges, including electrical systems utilized during construction.
  • Oversee vehicle-material stock and manage equipment inventory.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies and practices.
  • Educate customers on system operation and maintenance.
  • Address and resolve customer inquiries and concerns promptly; communicate and document progress to customers and relevant team members.
  • Record key communications in the appropriate company software.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • At least 1 year of experience as an electrician, solar installer, or solar maintenance technician.
  • Licensed Journeyman Electrician.
  • Valid Driver's license with a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Proficient in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
Preferred Qualifications
  • OSHA 30 Certification.
  • Formal apprenticeship or vocational training.
  • Over 1 year of experience in the solar electric sector is preferred.
  • 3+ years of electrical experience.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Organized with a professional demeanor.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
Working Conditions
  • Job locations vary.
  • Estimated travel time is around 50%.
  • Driving is required; must possess a valid Driver's license with a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Willingness to travel for specific projects as needed.
Physical Requirements
  • Extended hours working outdoors on residential rooftops, traveling to customer locations, and performing both ground and rooftop tasks.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures; must be comfortable in diverse environments.
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs; assistance may be available for larger items.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and drive for up to 8 hours consecutively.
  • Work postures include reaching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, squatting, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, and handling objects above/below shoulder height.
