We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Youth Program Coordinator to join our team at Maine Immigrant & Refugee Services.

Job Overview:

The successful candidate will support the development, oversight, and facilitation of youth programming under the supervision of the Youth Program Supervisor. This role involves providing age-appropriate activities, academic support, sports, and other youth-related activities as needed. The ideal candidate will work closely with the YP Team Lead, interns, volunteers, and other MEIRS team members/departments as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the development of youth programming and organize program activities (e.g. games, art, music, homework, etc.) for the purpose of addressing the individual and/or group needs of youth enrolled in YP.
  • Interact with youth in various activities (e.g. snack time, group or individual play, academic support, etc.) for the purpose of providing for a safe and positive learning and enriching environment.
  • Support and work with youth program participants to support post-secondary education goals, including college and work applications, among other aspirations-oriented activities and program aspects.
  • Evaluate situations (e.g. disciplinary problems, hazardous conditions, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Maintain various records and files (e.g. enrollment, daily sign-in/out log, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, meeting operational requirements, and ensuring accurate documentation as required.
  • Perform record-keeping and clerical functions (e.g. attendance, statistical and operational reports, library materials, scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the facilitators and supervisor in providing necessary records/materials.
  • Participate and represent MEIRS in various meetings (MEIRS & outside MEIRS) for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one's skill/knowledge per the direction of the YPS.
  • Sets up and maintains after school center (e.g. opens/closes center, facilitates and organizes games, art projects, etc.) for the purpose of adequate preparation ahead of facilitating and overseeing activities and programs.
  • Supports and maintains consistent and clear communication with youth and their families that are enrolled in MEIRS youth programs for the purpose of maintaining open lines of communication and trust with parents/caregivers.
  • Attend all agency training as directed by supervisor/HR.
  • Coordinate and support the development of youth recreation programs, including but not limited to, soccer, basketball.
  • Work collaboratively with designated organizational partners for the purpose of addressing the needs of youth in activities, programs, and additional enrichment activities and services.
  • Support the creation of an annual budget for youth programs, including but not limited to, recreation, after school, field trips, and other programming activities.
  • Be a role model, supportive to youth and their families.
  • Work with other employees, interns and volunteers to develop, organize, and implement youth programs.
  • Attend youth and family hearings in juvenile courts as needed per direction of YPS for the purpose of providing support.
  • Attend youth and family meetings in the local schools as needed per the direction of YPS for the purpose of providing support and advocacy.
  • Assess situations and make referrals to additional resources and providers as needed and requested by youth and their families, including but not limited to, legal advocacy, restorative justice, and others.
  • Supports coordination of youth program participant and caregiver check in meetings as necessary (school support, legal aid support, restorative consultations, among others).
  • Provide transportation as needed using personal vehicle and/or company van per the requirements of the job.
  • Maintain professional practices and demeanor while on the job, inside and outside of MEIRS office locations.
  • Maintain regular communication with YPS and other staff, interns, and volunteers while working.
  • Keep department inventories safe and maintain them.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned, some weekend hours may be required.
