The Denver Office of Tetra Tech is on the lookout for an experienced Lead Hydrology and Hydraulic Engineer, focusing on the analysis, design, and construction oversight for projects involving dams and reservoirs, civil and green infrastructure, stormwater management, drainage, sediment control, and flood management initiatives.

This role necessitates advanced modeling capabilities to execute a diverse range of challenging hydrologic, hydraulic, and sediment transport analyses. Additional responsibilities include supporting projects related to floodplain management, dam safety assessments, watershed management, and evaluating the impacts of water resource projects.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Conduct hydrology assessments in compliance with federal and state regulations for dam safety.
  • Execute hydraulic modeling and design for facilities, including restoration features, levees, culverts, and fish passage solutions.
  • Perform floodplain inundation assessments.
  • Carry out hydrologic evaluations to support restoration and floodplain management initiatives.
  • Conduct sediment transport and scour evaluations for various water resource projects.
  • Draft project documentation and deliver presentations.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including geotechnical and structural engineers, biologists, and planners.
  • Oversee projects and task orders to ensure technical and financial success.
  • Guide and delegate tasks to junior engineers and support staff as needed.
  • Engage in business development, marketing, proposal writing, and mentoring of staff.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with approximately 10+ years of experience in hydraulics and hydrology; a Master's degree with a focus on hydraulics is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer license is required (Colorado license preferred, to be obtained within six months of hire).
  • Proficiency in 1-D steady and unsteady modeling tools such as HEC-RAS and HEC-GeoRAS.
  • Experience with 2-D modeling software (e.g., RAS-2D, FLO-2D).
  • Familiarity with sediment transport modeling techniques.
  • Knowledge of FEMA and local floodplain management regulations.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Experience in geomorphology is advantageous.
  • Certification as a Floodplain Manager is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel and engage in fieldwork as required.
The salary range for this position is approximately $110,000 to $140,000, contingent upon education, experience, skills, and location.
