Ophthalmic Care Specialist

Job Summary:
The Ophthalmic Assistant is a vital member of our healthcare team, responsible for maintaining patient care supplies, ensuring a smooth patient flow, and assisting physicians and nurses with patient screening, diagnostic testing, exams, and in-office procedures.
This role requires strong customer service skills, compassion, and a caring attitude when interacting with patients and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Completes initial patient screening and documents pertinent patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Performs ophthalmic diagnostic testing and related tasks using applicable equipment and methodology.
- Assists physicians and/or nursing staff with various procedures using appropriate techniques.
- Maintains patient care environment and supplies to ensure patient privacy and safety.
- Gathers medical records and patient information.
- Performs visual acuity screening and ophthalmic preliminary and diagnostic tests.
- Assists with in-office procedures, including instilling eye drops and maintaining and cleaning ophthalmic instruments.
- Assists with patient scheduling and training of other Ophthalmic Assistants.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within thirty days of start date in position.
- Medical Terminology must be obtained within one year of start date in position.
