Position Overview:

This role involves specialized public interaction, security, and related responsibilities in the management of official judicial proceedings. An individual in this position is tasked with various duties associated with official proceedings in courtrooms and chambers, providing assistance to judges, jurors, witnesses, and attorneys before, during, or after court sessions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that courtrooms, chambers, and jury rooms are prepared for use; confirm attendance of all parties and clerical support personnel.
  • Facilitate the judge's equipment setup in the courtroom and announce the judge's arrival to call court to order.
  • Maintain order during court sessions, remaining vigilant to potential disturbances, and provide security for the judge.
  • Assist in obtaining materials required by the judge during proceedings and manage the escorting of individuals from the court as directed.
  • Provide information and resolve inquiries from judges, attorneys, court officials, and the public.
  • Manage jury pool communications to ensure panels are ready for court; escort jurors during recesses and address their questions regarding court procedures.
  • Accompany impaneled juries outside the jury room, including during meals and overnight accommodations if sequestered.
  • Call witnesses into court for testimony and monitor juror presence outside the courtroom during trials.
  • Order necessary files for motion hearings and ensure all required documents are available and organized.
  • Assist attorneys with scheduling and provide support to the judicial assistant as needed.
  • Conduct research inquiries on the computer to obtain docket information.
  • Support emergency preparedness and coordination efforts.
  • Perform various administrative duties as required.
Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED is required. Experience as a peace officer, bailiff, security officer, military service, or public interaction is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Thorough understanding of court procedures, legal documents, and relevant laws. Familiarity with the organization and functions of the courts is essential. Proficiency in modern office practices and personal computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Zoom, is required.

Personal Attributes:

Ability to establish rapport with judges, court administration, law enforcement, and the public. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain composure in high-pressure situations are crucial. Effective communication skills, both oral and written, are necessary for this role.

Working Conditions:

Moderate noise level in a business office setting.

Physical Demands:

This position requires significant standing, walking, sitting, talking, listening, and reaching. The ability to lift and transfer up to 10 pounds is necessary.
