POSITION OVERVIEW:
As a Steel Fabrication Specialist, you will be responsible for constructing various structures, including buildings and marine vessels, from diverse steel materials in accordance with project specifications and blueprints. You will also lead and mentor team members throughout the fabrication process.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interpret and execute a variety of technical drawings and sketches with precision and minimal supervision.
- Identify and manipulate structural steel shapes, ensuring accurate cutting, layout, and assembly of welded or bolted components.
- Fabricate, bend, roll, and assemble different types of plate structures and assemblies.
- Collaborate with supervisors to effectively organize and guide the crew.
- Work independently to follow build plans based on technical drawings and relevant codes.
- Maintain established production schedules while optimizing best practices.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
- Follow written and verbal instructions regarding daily operations, safety protocols, and potential hazards.
- Communicate effectively with team members to provide guidance on project tasks.
- Proven experience in welding and fabrication, demonstrating the ability to perform essential functions and responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of burning, welding techniques, and operation of fabrication machinery.
- Capability to execute a 3/8 horizontal fillet weld using wire; experience with UT welding is advantageous.
- Familiarity with the operation of fabrication equipment; CNC and NC skills are beneficial but not mandatory.
A minimum of five years of experience in welding and fabrication, or completion of an apprenticeship program.
CERTIFICATIONS:
Must possess a valid certification or successfully pass a welding test upon employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs; utilize mechanical assistance for heavier objects.
- Capable of lifting a 60 lb spool of wire and loading it onto welding equipment.
- Ability to perform various physical activities, including bending, reaching, kneeling, and climbing.
- Comfortable working from ladders and scaffolding.
Exposure to high noise levels, welding fumes, and varying weather conditions is possible. Appropriate protective equipment will be provided as necessary.
