We are seeking a highly skilled Phlebotomy Technician II to join our team at Trinity Health. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients in various settings, including inpatient and outpatient environments.
Key Responsibilities- Collect blood samples using appropriate phlebotomy techniques and follow all policies related to handling of blood specimens.
- Recognize factors that affect specimen collection procedures and test results, such as specific patient indicators, order of draw, and timed specimens.
- Perform a variety of collection techniques, including vacutainer, syringe, butterfly, and capillary methods.
- Rotate to outpatient labs as needed and carry a hospital pager to respond to department needs.
- Process specimens, including answering the phone, putting specimens on automated lines, centrifuging, manually logging in specimens, managing stat paging, and answering requests for results.
- Perform miscellaneous computer duties as assigned and complete daily job assignments.
- Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean and organized manner.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of Medical Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant or Phlebotomy program or equivalent required.
- Two-year college degree in biological science or health-related field preferred.
- Current certification in one of the following: AMT (American Medical Technologist), ASCP (American Soc of Clinical Pathologists), NCPT (National Soc of Certified Phlebotomy Technicians), or NCCT (Nat'l Center for Competency Testing).
- Current Heart Saver (HS) certification.
- Fast-paced patient service environment requires ability to stand, walk, and move for up to 100% of work hours.
- Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers, and community groups.
This position requires the use of hands for simple and firm grasping and fine manipulating. The working environment includes frequent interruptions, and there is potential for exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous waste, and chemicals.
