Position Overview

We are seeking a talented Systems Engineer with a robust background in operating systems and server hardware to contribute to our Defense Enclave Services (DES) team.

ROLE SUMMARY:
Collaborate across various Department of Defense (DOD) agencies to transition IT services into a unified hosting environment. Your expertise will be essential in conducting discovery, designing, and planning migration tasks to establish a premier Single Service Provider for the DOD. We are looking for individuals who are technically proficient and committed to delivering high-quality work with meticulous attention to detail.

SECURITY CLEARANCE:
* An active Secret security clearance is required, or candidates must be eligible for submission and capable of maintaining an active Secret security clearance once granted. (US Citizenship is mandatory)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Document the current infrastructure setup, requirements, and overall architecture. Collaborate with stakeholders to create both high-level and detailed designs for the existing infrastructure while identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Develop a comprehensive plan to transition the current infrastructure into a singular architecture and outline the hardware procurement strategy necessary for the migration.
  • Design, integrate, configure, test, and deploy various server-based applications utilizing Windows and Linux operating systems across multiple virtualization platforms and cloud environments.
  • Enhance system performance and streamline migration workflows.
  • Conduct data captures to gather computing performance metrics and system configuration details.
  • Formulate migration strategies that expedite execution while minimizing disruption to users.
  • Establish migration plans for complex multi-tier applications and services.
  • Collect necessary data to predict long-term capacity and performance needs.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (preferred) with 8-12 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in the same fields with 6-10 years of experience (additional years of directly applicable experience may substitute for a degree).
  • Must possess an active DoD IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+) or equivalent prior to employment.
  • Experience in documenting logical or physical designs using tools such as Visio, PowerPoint, Gliffy, Cameo, or MagicDraw to illustrate systems, subsystems, interfaces, components, and communications of IT applications and infrastructure.
  • Proficient in requirements management and analysis.
  • Skilled in conducting technical troubleshooting to resolve issues effectively.
  • Experience in creating or executing migration plans to transition services, applications, or data between environments or to a commercial cloud provider. Alternatively, experience in planning or executing a technology refresh or lifecycle refresh of an existing IT system.
  • Experience in conducting site surveys or analyzing data from site surveys.
  • Broad exposure to common IT infrastructure with depth in at least one area such as networking, storage, Identity and Access Management, operating systems, server virtualization, enterprise productivity applications, voice, desktops, or mobile devices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft SOPs and technical documentation.
  • Able to present designs and plans to technical leadership for approval.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with cloud technologies (e.g., VCF, AWS, Azure, Oracle, or Google).
  • Knowledge of networking technologies.
  • Experience with IT discovery tools (e.g., Solarwinds, Device42, ServiceNow, or similar).
  • Completion of compute certifications such as MCSA, VCTA, RHCSA, Server+, or comparable vendor certification.
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies like VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Experience managing enterprise storage solutions (e.g., Dell PowerStore/Unity, HPE Alletra/3PAR, NetApp AFF Series).
  • Experience managing enterprise backup solutions (e.g., CommVault, PowerProtect, Veeam).
  • Experience in deploying and maintaining Windows Server and/or Red Hat systems.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory and Group Policy management and design.
  • Experience with patching technologies (e.g., VMware LCM/VUM, MECM/SCCM, Satellite/Ansible).
  • Experience collaborating within a team to troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $101,000 - $183,300.00. The pay range for this job level serves as a general guideline and is not a guarantee of compensation. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
