Medical Laboratory Specialist - Certified Phlebotomist
Johns Hopkins Health System is seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our team. As a Certified Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting laboratory specimens from patients using various collection techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collects specimens from adult and pediatric patients, including complex cases and those requiring additional support.
- Verifies and obtains correct specimen types, understands proper patient identification procedures, and recognizes cases that require additional support.
- Collects laboratory specimens from patients using collection techniques specific to the area, including arterial blood gas, venipuncture, capillary collection, and more.
- Maintains necessary supply inventory, restocks, and ensures a clean and sanitary work environment.
- Prepares basic laboratory reagents and decontaminates and/or properly disposes of laboratory waste, biohazard waste, and sharps.
- Obtains information, enters, and communicates data in patient files, laboratory information systems, and related devices.
Requirements:
- Minimum of a High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Lab Tech I: At least 6 months of experience is highly preferred.
- Lab Tech II: Two years of experience as a Lab Technician -OR- 6 months of experience and a current Phlebotomy Certification (ASCP-PBT, CPhT, or equivalent).
