ROLE SUMMARY:
Oversee the daily operations of the Track Department, focusing on the inspection, upkeep, and construction of rail tracks, turnouts, and drainage enhancements. Responsibilities will encompass both office and fieldwork in various weather conditions to support continuous operations. The position reports to the Assistant Division Engineer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the Track Department's resources and duties related to all track inspection and maintenance activities within the designated area.
  • Engage in the planning and execution of maintenance and construction initiatives for the Track Department, including the phases of new track infrastructure installation.
  • Collaborate with other departments and agencies on maintenance and construction projects.
  • Coordinate and schedule work activities for significant track outages, working with various departments to meet established timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory inspections in accordance with Amtrak policies and federal regulations.
  • Oversee the procurement and installation of materials, ensuring proper delivery and storage, as well as the performance of contracted services.
  • Provide technical support in the field for all maintenance and construction tasks, remaining available for emergencies and planned work outside regular hours.
  • Organize technical and safety training for all direct reports.
  • Monitor field activities to ensure adherence to safety protocols and report observations to enhance the overall safety culture.
  • Assist in developing the division's short-term and long-term capital plans.
  • Investigate incidents and respond as necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to collective bargaining agreements and recommend disciplinary actions when appropriate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience with at least 3 years in a similar role.
  • Alternatively, a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with BMWE labor agreements, FRA Regulations, and other relevant safety protocols.
  • Proven supervisory skills and ability to interact with all levels of staff and external clients.
  • Strong knowledge of railroad operations and divisional processes.
  • Experience in project management, including scheduling and budgeting.
  • Proficient in MS Office and other relevant applications.
  • Valid driver's license.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field with at least 6 years of experience.
  • Alternatively, a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain one.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Combination of office and field environments.
  • Availability to respond to emergencies in all weather conditions.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Exceptional oral and written communication abilities are required.
