Job Title: Rail and Transit Engineer Mid-Level

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing a wide range of rail-related design projects, including those for MDOT Maryland Transit Administration, CSXT, WMATA, Amtrak, DRPT, and VPRA. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and delivering quality transit/rail services on-time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of clients.
  • Preparing and modifying reports, specifications, plans, schedules, environmental studies, and designs for projects.
  • Serving as a technical resource leading a team providing rail track engineering and design services for clients.
  • Preparing cost estimates, determining scope of work, and preparing proposals and contracts on projects.
  • Coordinating and ensuring completeness and accuracy of design efforts.
  • Using design software to prepare engineering and design documents.
  • Submitting documents to federal, state, and local agencies for review and obtaining permits required.
  • Participating in Design/Build efforts, including consulting with contractor/construction personnel concerning design constructability as related to field conditions, sequencing, and scheduling of construction activities.
  • Attending onsite and offsite client meetings.
  • Serving as a technical liaison with clients on project efforts and coordinating technical efforts within discipline areas.
  • Evaluating the need for design changes and making appropriate recommendations.
  • Participating in project scoping and fee estimating and proposal preparation, interviews, and negotiations.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Rail Transportation Engineering.
  • 5+ years of track design experience.
  • Professional Engineer, P.E. in Maryland. DC and Virginia PE's a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of rail track design, management, and implementation of transit/passenger/freight rail projects.
  • Familiarity with MDOT MTA, MDOT SHA, MDTA, and other local agencies such as the City of Baltimore DOT a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of the practical application of engineering principles, practices, and techniques, including AREMA guidelines.
  • Demonstrated experience in Microstation V8i, Inroads, and Open Rail.
  • Skill in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
