Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Payroll and Benefits Manager to join our team at Northern Illinois Food Bank. This role is responsible for managing and processing accurate biweekly payroll and administering the company's benefit programs, including FMLA and 401(k). The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of payroll, benefits, and employment laws, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and process biweekly payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Administer benefit programs, including FMLA, 401(k), and workers' compensation.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to employees, answering questions and resolving issues related to payroll and benefits.
  • Collaborate with the People Team Director and Finance team to ensure accurate and timely payment of earned incentives, merit increases, and bonus payments.
  • Manage vendor invoicing and work with accounting to ensure timely payments.
  • Ensure compliance with state withholding and unemployment registrations.
  • Develop and implement benefit plan structures, including annual open enrollment processes.
  • Manage leave programs and policies, ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on payroll and benefits procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in payroll and benefits administration, including experience with ADP or web-based payroll systems.
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or Certified Payroll Professional certification preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
