Patient Care Technician

We are seeking a skilled Patient Care Technician to join our Observation Unit team at Northwestern Medicine. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our clinical team.
About the RoleThis part-time position is located at Lake Forest Hospital and requires a 24-hour workweek with 12-hour shifts from 7pm to 7:30am. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of clinical and patient care-related functions, including:
- Collecting, labeling, and transporting specimens
- Obtaining 12-lead EKGs
- Discontinuing saline locks and indwelling urinary catheters
- Discontinuing telemetry monitoring packs
- Performing bladder scans
- Performing point-of-care testing as appropriate
- Assisting patients with personal hygiene and nutritional needs
- Performing hourly patient rounding in collaboration with the clinical RN
- Obtaining and documenting patient care data as directed by the clinical RN
- Assisting with patient ambulation and positioning
- Assisting the healthcare team in meeting individualized patient needs
- Responding to patient call lights and requests for assistance
- Assisting with post-mortem care
As a Safety Attendant/Telesitter Monitor, you will be responsible for:
- Maintaining visual observation at all times with no distractions
- Providing prompt notification to the care team if a patient requires assistance
- Monitoring and maintaining patient environmental safety
- Notifying the care team if any hazards are discovered
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited CNA program and listing on the state of Illinois CNA Registry, or successful completion of minimally two semesters of clinical rotations
- BLS through the American Heart Association
- Physical demands that include lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds and pushing/pulling forces up to 50 pounds
