Patient Care Technician

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our team at Northwestern Medicine. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.
About the Role:The Patient Care Technician will work under the direction of the clinical RN or physician to provide a variety of clinical/patient care related functions, including:
- Collecting, labeling, and transporting specimens
- Obtaining 12 lead EKGs
- Discontinuing Saline Locks and Indwelling Urinary Catheters
- Discontinuing Telemetry Monitoring packs
- Performing Bladder Scan
- Performing Point of Care Testing as appropriate
- Assisting patients with personal hygiene and nutritional needs
- Performing hourly patient rounding in collaboration with the clinical RN
- Obtaining and documenting patient care data as directed by the clinical RN
- Assisting with patient ambulation and positioning
- Assisting the healthcare team in meeting the individualized needs of the patient
- Responding to patient call lights and requests for assistance
- Assisting the healthcare team in maintaining a clinical care environment that supports patient, family, and staff safety
- Assisting with post-mortem care
The Patient Care Technician will also be responsible for:
- Maintaining visual observation at all times with no distractions
- Providing prompt notification to the care team if the patient requires assistance
- Monitoring and maintaining patient environmental safety, and notifying the care team if any hazards are discovered
- Performing care checks in accordance with the care plan
- Following appropriate policy
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited CNA program and listed on the state of Illinois CNA Registry OR Successful completion minimally of Fundamentals of Nursing with 2 semesters of clinical rotations
- BLS through American Heart Association
