About the Role

Vaya Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Geriatric Mental Health Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Geriatric and Adult Mental Health Specialty Team, you will play a critical role in providing training, consultation, and technical assistance to community organizations and staff of nursing homes, adult care homes, and family care homes serving adults with mental illness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Training and Education: Develop and teach evidence-informed presentations about mental illnesses and how to manage difficult behaviors, as well as how to navigate the behavioral health system to community agencies.
  • Consultation and Support: Provide education and linkage to services for caregivers of older adults who are providing care for individuals in the community.
  • Case Consultation: Provide case consultation regarding behaviors that may result in the need for more intensive services, including and up to hospitalization, and facilitate access to those services.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Document required elements on MHDDSAS reports, in Vaya's electronic health record, and other internal processes.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work collaboratively with other team members on a variety of clinical issues, including diagnostic criteria and evidence-based treatment options for individuals with serious and persistent mental illnesses.
Requirements
  • Education: Master's degree in a field related to health, psychology, sociology, social work, or another relevant human services area.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience working with the population served, one of which must be in serving older adults with mental health and/or substance use disorders.
  • Licensure: Active, unrestricted North Carolina licensure in behavioral health (i.e., LCMHC, LCSW, LMFT, LPA, LCAS).
