Role Summary:

This role involves preparing examination rooms, recording vital signs and weights, gathering brief medical histories, and providing comprehensive support in patient care. The Medical Assistant will work under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute administrative tasks, including welcoming patients, managing both paper and electronic health records, handling phone communications such as notifying patients of test outcomes, coordinating care, completing necessary forms, scheduling appointments, and managing correspondence.
  • Conduct clinical tasks that address all patient needs to ensure safe and effective care delivery.
  • Assist the Physician/Nurse Practitioner/RN proactively as needed, collaborating within a multidisciplinary team to foster a positive patient experience.
  • Welcome patients promptly, obtaining routine vital signs and screenings according to established protocols for their visit. Accurately document relevant information in the electronic health record.
  • Perform back-office tasks, laboratory procedures, and testing consistent with training and clinic policies, including routine and chronic care assessments.
  • Under the guidance of a Physician/Nurse Practitioner/RN, carry out minor procedures such as ear lavage, nebulizer treatments, and basic lab functions, as well as facilitate the sending of specimens to external laboratories and conduct age-specific screenings.
  • Take ownership of assigned responsibilities, including tracking referrals, maintaining clean and stocked exam rooms, and assisting with the upkeep and inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant in Washington, DC.
  • Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I) is advantageous.
  • Experience as a Medical Assistant as outlined above.
  • A minimum of one year of experience working with elderly or frail populations.
  • Preferred experience in long-term care facilities or community-based geriatric programs.
  • Must be free from communicable diseases and have up-to-date vaccinations, including against Covid-19.
