Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement city and departmental policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments and outside agencies to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Assume full management responsibility for all Public Works Department services and activities, including engineering, wastewater treatment, streets, sanitation, water and sewer collection and distribution, park maintenance, and equipment and vehicle maintenance.
  • Direct and manage the development and implementation of Public Works goals, objectives, policies, and priorities to align with city-wide initiatives.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of policies and plans related to departmental services and operations, including infrastructure planning and management.
  • Establish, within city policy, appropriate service and staffing levels to meet the needs of the community.
  • Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures to identify areas for improvement.
  • Evaluate the city's infrastructure and plan replacements and/or expansions to ensure continued service delivery.
  • Oversee and participate in the development and administration of the department's budget to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Provide complex staff assistance to the City Manager on matters related to public works and infrastructure.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least eight years of increasingly responsible experience in managing Public Works organizations and projects, construction relating to public works systems.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Engineering design experience preferred.
