As a Systems Administration Intern, you will have the chance to learn from seasoned professionals, engage with real-world IT challenges, and play a vital role in ensuring the efficient operation of our organization.

Position Summary

The Systems Administration Intern is responsible for maintaining optimal computer operations to enable end users to perform their tasks effectively. Your duties will include receiving, prioritizing, documenting, and actively resolving user support requests. This may involve utilizing diagnostic tools and tracking requests, as well as providing hands-on assistance at the desktop level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a courteous demeanor while addressing service requests from users through various communication channels.
  • Build rapport with users and thoroughly investigate their issues.
  • Prioritize and schedule problems, escalating to more experienced technicians when necessary.
  • Document the entire problem-solving process, including all actions taken until resolution.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Refer to software updates, drivers, knowledge bases, and FAQs to assist in problem resolution.
  • Familiarize yourself with the software and hardware supported by the organization.
  • Conduct hands-on repairs at both desktop and server levels, including software installations, hardware upgrades, and system configurations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance by checking and cleaning workstations and peripherals.
  • Test solutions to ensure that issues have been effectively resolved.
  • Follow up with users after resolving their requests to ensure satisfaction.
  • Create help sheets and FAQs for user reference.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience

  • Currently enrolled in a second-year information technology program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with desktop and server operating systems, including Windows and Microsoft Office.

  • Understanding of basic computer hardware, including PCs, printers, and servers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, focusing on rapport-building and active listening.
  • Ability to quickly absorb and retain information.
  • Capability to present ideas in a user-friendly manner.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Effective prioritization and execution skills, even under pressure.
