Job Title: Veterinary Medical Director

Join the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA team as a Veterinary Medical Director, leading our shelter medicine program and overseeing a team of dedicated veterinarians.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced veterinarian to lead our veterinary medical program. As a Veterinary Medical Director, you will be responsible for developing and implementing veterinary medical protocols and procedures, monitoring the health of the shelter population, and mentoring and guiding veterinarians and staff to promote better animal husbandry and excellence in veterinary medical care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement veterinary medical protocols and procedures for all departments and programs
  • Monitor the health of the shelter population and work collaboratively with shelter managers to recognize, contain, and treat contagious diseases
  • Mentor and guide veterinarians and staff to promote better animal husbandry and excellence in veterinary medical care
  • Conduct rounds with veterinarians to discuss medical and surgical cases
  • Ensure animal medical records are maintained as required by law
  • Act as a liaison for the public and staff regarding concerns, disputes, or misconceptions of animal medical care
  • Maintain California Veterinary License in good standing and pursue adequate and appropriate continuing education
Requirements
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree
  • Minimum of five years of experience working with animals in a clinical environment, with a strong preference for shelter medicine experience
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • California State License Veterinarian in good standing with a valid DEA license
  • Valid California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record
