Job Overview

Position Title: EHS Teacher Employment Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities

  • Foster a nurturing and engaging educational atmosphere that encourages respectful interactions among families, children, volunteers, staff, and supervisors within the Early Head Start program.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to children's emotional cues.
  • Implement the Early Head Start positive discipline guidance framework.
  • React effectively to emergencies or crises as they arise.
  • Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans that support the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth of infants and toddlers, while honoring family cultural backgrounds.
  • Lift and manage children weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Exhibit teaching methods that are developmentally suitable.
  • Adhere to the Standards of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, Head Start Performance Program Standards (HSPPS), and the Practice-Based Coaching (PBC) cycle for program enhancement.
  • Timely completion of data entries in My Teaching Strategies and ChildPlus.
  • Maintain comprehensive records for each child, including screenings, assessments, referrals, and documentation of home visit activities.
  • Ensure accurate and complete record-keeping in compliance with federal/state regulations and district policies.
  • Assist children with daily routines, including dental hygiene.
  • Conduct home visits and parent meetings as necessary.
  • Administer the Ages & Stages Questionnaire and discuss results with families.
  • Create and maintain classroom bulletin boards while ensuring an organized and clutter-free environment.
  • Encourage and support parental involvement and engagement.
  • Participate in meetings, training sessions, and relevant professional development opportunities.
  • Oversee the general upkeep, organization, cleanliness, and security of the facility.
  • Report maintenance issues or concerns to the supervisor.
  • Communicate any behavioral concerns regarding children to the supervisor.
  • Notify the supervisor of any suspected disabilities.
  • Report Health & Safety issues to the Health & Safety Manager.
  • Ensure constant supervision of children.
  • Report any suspected cases of abuse or neglect in accordance with state laws.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by the supervisor or director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Resume submission required.
  • CDA Credential in Early Childhood Education or related qualifications in Early Childhood or Infant/Toddler Care.
  • A minimum of 6 months experience working with young children and their families.
  • Dependability and punctuality are essential.
  • Ability to make sound decisions regarding safety and child guidance.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality regarding family and employee information.
  • Pass a background check every five years.
  • Demonstrated interest in working with children and families.
  • Strong grammar and writing skills are necessary.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
  • Willingness to develop basic technology skills.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for job-related travel, with minimum liability insurance.
  • Availability for overnight travel as required.
  • Successful completion of an initial health screening within thirty (30) days of employment.
  • Proof of Hepatitis immunization and tuberculosis screening to ensure safety.
  • Completion of an American Red Cross First Aid and CPR course for infants and toddlers is mandatory.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

  • Initial 90-day probation period upon hire.
  • Annual performance evaluations conducted by the Director.
