Objective:

The role of the School Psychologist is designed to formulate strategies and interventions that foster student achievement. This includes evaluating and interpreting the cognitive, adaptive, academic, social, and emotional growth of students, as well as analyzing psychological assessments and applying relevant state and federal regulations.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Administers standardized assessments to evaluate students' cognitive, adaptive, academic, social, and emotional development, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  2. Evaluates students' functional capabilities and their home/classroom environments to establish a comprehensive understanding of their needs and recommend appropriate placements.
  3. Collaborates with educational staff to create and implement monitoring systems and tailored academic and behavioral interventions.
  4. Works alongside specialists (e.g., autism consultants, behavior specialists, therapists) to design and deliver effective support for students.
  5. Gathers information from various stakeholders (e.g., teachers, parents, mental health professionals) to compile thorough evaluation reports in line with established protocols.
  6. Consults with educators and parents to provide insights, develop service plans, and make informed recommendations.
  7. Coordinates with school personnel to enhance program development and evaluation, ensuring effective support for students facing physical, mental, social, and emotional challenges.
  8. Provides counseling to students and their families to promote academic success.
  9. Demonstrates expertise in Response to Intervention, utilizing data to inform interventions and determine eligibility for services.
  10. Facilitates smooth transitions for students moving between school and community learning environments.
  11. Participates in professional development activities to stay informed and enhance service delivery.
  12. Advocates for school policies that ensure student safety and well-being, actively participating in threat assessments and crisis intervention protocols.
  13. Researches and evaluates resources and methodologies to effectively address students' functional goals and support individualized instruction.
  14. Utilizes student data to make informed, data-driven decisions that foster student growth.
  15. Assists in organizing annual testing schedules.

Additional Duties:

  1. Performs other related tasks as assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the department.
  2. Supervises interns and practicum students, fostering their professional development and ensuring alignment with educational objectives.

Qualifications:

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Proficient in executing complex technical tasks and adapting to evolving job requirements. Required competencies include: applying assessment tools, operating standard office equipment, and maintaining accurate records.

Knowledge of advanced mathematics, technical information interpretation, and effective communication is essential. Specific competencies include understanding psychological and educational principles, as well as relevant laws and regulations.

Ability to manage multiple activities, demonstrate flexibility, and maintain confidentiality while working collaboratively with diverse groups.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include working under limited supervision, leading and coordinating activities, and adhering to budgetary constraints. Collaboration with other departments is often necessary to fulfill job functions.

Work Environment:

The role involves a mix of sitting, walking, and standing, typically performed in a clean and healthy environment.

Experience: Relevant experience in a specialized field is required.

Education: A Master's Degree in a related area is required.

Certifications: Georgia Certification as a School Psychologist is mandatory.

Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance is required.
