Position Overview

As a Large Commercial Underwriter II, your primary responsibility will be to evaluate and underwrite commercial lines business, ensuring alignment with our financial objectives, including Combined Ratio and capital metrics. You will manage a portfolio valued between $15-25 million while guiding a team of Underwriter I's and Trainees. Your expertise will be crucial in assessing risk acceptability, determining pricing strategies, adhering to underwriting guidelines, nurturing agency relationships, auditing files, and enhancing underwriting processes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough analysis and underwriting of a $15-25 million portfolio to achieve capital metrics and combined ratio targets.
  • Support the Senior Underwriter team in meeting business unit objectives through informed decision-making and adherence to best practices.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with producers and strengthen existing partnerships.
  • Collaborate with the broader Commercial Lines team and other departments to refine and advance Velocity Risk's products and services.
  • Oversee, train, and mentor Underwriting Assistants while providing guidance to Underwriter I's.

Qualifications

To excel in this position, candidates should possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial insurance.
  • Professional insurance designations are advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
