Position Summary:
BHSI is currently seeking a Senior Underwriter specializing in Commercial Surety. This role is pivotal in managing regional commercial surety operations and can be based in various locations.

The Senior Underwriter will oversee the underwriting process for accounts, which includes evaluating new business opportunities, assessing credit quality, and applying underwriting expertise to make informed decisions regarding terms, conditions, and pricing. This position will serve as a market-facing representative, tasked with the development and expansion of the Commercial Surety line within the designated region. Additionally, the Senior Underwriter will play a crucial role in cultivating and enhancing relationships with brokers and clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the underwriting process for the commercial surety portfolio
  • Conduct credit evaluations for new business and monitor the existing portfolio
  • Expand and develop the commercial surety book of business
  • Establish and nurture relationships with brokers and clients
  • Review RFPs, contracts, and bond forms for complex projects within the non-contract commercial surety sector
  • Formulate and implement marketing strategies
  • Willingness to travel within the assigned territory

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial surety underwriting
  • Proficient in credit assessment
  • Strong negotiation capabilities
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in managing and partnering with retail brokers
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
