POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Science Outreach Center at Clemson University is seeking a dynamic individual to develop, implement, and evaluate educational programming. This role involves overseeing daily operations, supervising student staff, and stepping into a leadership position in the absence of the director. Responsibilities also include monitoring event registrations and managing the budget.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Educational Programming (35%):
Create, implement, and assess laboratory experiences aligned with South Carolina K-12 science standards. Stay informed about current educational practices and evaluate existing programs while developing new offerings that incorporate technology and hands-on learning.
2. Mentorship (30%):
Facilitate regular team meetings, guiding discussions on planning, organization, and time management. Act as a liaison for the director, providing updates on student worker performance.
3. Collaboration and Outreach (15%):
Build partnerships with educational organizations, university departments, and community groups to promote and enhance programming.
4. Laboratory Supervision (15%):
Manage chemical and biological inventory, train staff on equipment usage, and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
5. Fiscal Management (5%):
Oversee event reservations and monitor the budget to ensure adherence to university policies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Experience: Minimum of 1 year in a relevant program role.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master's Degree in Science Education or related field.
Experience: 5+ years in science education.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Strong knowledge of educational concepts and practices, ability to lead and guide others, and experience in budget management.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to stand, sit, and move about for extended periods, operate equipment, and communicate effectively.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Exposure to various environmental factors, including dust and chemical hazards.
