Job Description

As a highly skilled Communications Electronic Technician III, you will play a critical role in supporting Response Operations deployable communications equipment. Your technical expertise will be essential in providing communications and mechanical repair and maintenance, transporting and operating temporary communications command sites, and performing satellite communications diagnostics and repair.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support for Response Operations communications equipment, including repair and maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Transport and operate temporary communications command sites during man-made or natural disasters and special assignments.
  • Perform satellite communications diagnostics and repair, as well as installation and maintenance of radio equipment.
  • Provide emergency assistance through coordination of vital communications technology, ensuring a critical link to responding personnel and command staff.
  • Perform intermediate-level diagnostic functions using computer software, hardware, and databases to support the full operation of deployable communications assets.
  • Update and maintain Response Operations equipment operational guides and manuals.
  • Prepare, review, and update reports, memoranda, logs, and correspondence documenting required maintenance and upgrades to equipment.
  • Perform light and heavy-duty vehicle diagnostics and repair, as well as trailer and generator diagnostics and repair.
  • Maintain emergency power generator operations, test run logs, and conduct daily monitoring and visual inspections.
  • Perform basic-level electrical theory and repair, A/C and D/C, and intermediate-level carpentry and welding/fabrication.
  • Drive a vehicle while towing a trailer and operate a forklift and heavy equipment safely under supervision.
  • Evaluate and prioritize incoming assignments regarding risks to life safety, laws, departmental policies and procedures, weather, and road conditions.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma/equivalent required.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years' experience in programming, maintaining, and repairing two-way radio communications and electronic equipment.
  • AC/DC Electrical knowledge preferred.
  • Pneumatic and Hydraulic knowledge theory preferred.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge preferred.
  • Licensure and/or Certification: Must obtain a Class A non-CDL within one (1) year of employment and an OSHA Forklift Operator certification within six (6) months of employment.
  • Valid driver license from state of residence required.
