Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Electronics Technician III to join our team at the City of Austin. As a key member of our physical security team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our utility's physical assets and personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot various electronic security systems, including access control systems, cameras, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Manage entry points to restricted areas, including doors and gates.
  • Install and maintain fire and safety systems, including fire alarms and sprinkler systems.
  • Respond to security incidents and emergencies, conduct regular inspections and audits of security systems, and train and supervise other security personnel.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four (4) years of experience in repair and maintenance of electronics, such as communications, computer, and peripheral or control and instrumentation equipment.
  • Twelve (12) semester hours of college credit in electronics, communications technology, engineering technology, computer science, or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience up to a maximum of two (2) years.
  • Licenses or certifications: None.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience and knowledge of network protocols, infrastructure, and security best practices.
  • Proficiency in different security system programming and databases for customizing security systems.
  • Experience in physical security systems installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with various security technologies, including access control systems, CCTV, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Hands-on experience with security system hardware, software, and components.
  • Industry certifications: Certified Security Systems Professional (CSSP), Certified Electronic Security Technician (CEST), or Certified Physical Security Professional (CPS) or ability to obtain one within six (6) months of employment.
