Position Overview

NBME is seeking a Strategic Product Owner for Technical Solutions who will play a crucial role in the enhancement, modernization, and optimization of our systems that facilitate scoring and reporting of examinations in the medical education and licensing sectors.

The Product Owner will be instrumental in shaping the strategy and vision for scoring and reporting in collaboration with our Psychometrics and Data Analysis team. This role involves close collaboration with program and product management teams to convert stakeholder requirements into technical specifications, ensuring that the voice of the customer is represented to the development team. This will guide the development and maintenance of the scoring and reporting roadmap and backlog.

The development team focused on scoring and reporting implements solutions to generate scores and reports for all operational exam programs, while also providing support for strategic initiatives across the organization and collaborating with other scrum teams on related projects and enhancements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and communicate the product vision for the scoring and reporting domain.
  • Capture and articulate the voice of the customer.
  • Gather, analyze, and validate user and stakeholder needs.
  • Prioritize the product roadmap based on business value and evolving requirements.
  • Collaborate with other Product Owners to align requirements across teams.
  • Ensure system quality through the establishment of acceptance criteria and review of testing processes.
  • Develop release notes and plans to keep stakeholders informed.
  • Engage in the business case development and prioritization process.
  • Work closely with a development team of approximately 10 members.
  • Participate in agile practices and ceremonies as part of the delivery team.
  • Encourage continuous improvement and effectiveness within the team.
  • Plan and facilitate system demonstrations and user acceptance testing.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement to ensure team members feel involved and productive.
  • Promote and contribute to Agile scrum practices and participate in the Agile PO Center of Excellence.

Expected Deliverables

  • Clearly defined and documented business and system functionality requirements (via JIRA stories with descriptions, acceptance criteria, and supporting artifacts) in a prioritized backlog.
  • Development and communication of system roadmaps.
  • Initiative charters.
  • User Acceptance Testing (UAT) plans.
  • Release plans and notes.
  • Effective facilitation of meetings.
  • Support in the development of user documentation.

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong leadership, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proven experience in creating a vision, articulating a roadmap, managing change, and fostering cross-functional relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High-level understanding of cloud services such as AWS and Azure.

Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; prior product ownership experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with teams utilizing cloud services like AWS is advantageous.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification as a Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) is desirable.
