Job Title: Compliance Privacy Program Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Compliance Privacy Program Manager to join our team at the University of Maryland Medical System. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and operating an effective Corporate Compliance and Privacy Program, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Manage Member Organization-specific risk assessments related to HIPAA and privacy compliance, conducting risk assessment analysis and communicating risks to stakeholders.
  2. Lead the Member Organization Privacy Monitoring Program, ensuring ongoing monitoring of inappropriate/unauthorized access and disclosures, and preparing summary reports for Executive Leadership.
  3. Provide guidance on policy development, drafting compliance policies and procedures, and developing monitoring and auditing tools.
  4. Coordinate local compliance and privacy auditing and monitoring activities, conducting reviews as required for compliance with various regulatory guidelines.
  5. Work with departments to ensure timely completion of management action plans resulting from compliance-related findings by internal audit.
  6. Provide ongoing compliance and privacy education, promoting activities to foster compliance and privacy awareness.
  7. Maintain systems to solicit, evaluate, and respond to complaints, problems, and issues, and coordinate investigations, responses to violations, and corrective actions.
  8. Track the escalation of complaints and/or cases to ensure proper resolution.
  9. Review and evaluate investigation reports to make necessary adjustments.
  10. Sit on UMMS and Member Organizations' Compliance Committees as the compliance and privacy representative.
  11. Monitor and keep up-to-date with laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines, communicating and distributing information to stakeholders.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's degree preferred.
  2. Two (2) years of related compliance and privacy experience with a background in healthcare regulatory issues, including general familiarity with hospital billing, is required.
  3. Four (4) years of experience in healthcare or regulatory fields is preferred.
  4. Certified in Healthcare Compliance or other professional compliance certification (or achieve certification no later than 12 months from hire date.)
  5. Experience and working knowledge of Corporate Compliance, Audit, Legal, Privacy, or Information Security, and experience with case investigations management and compliance hotline management preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  1. Current knowledge of healthcare regulatory and compliance issues.
  2. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of staff and management.
  3. The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
