Respite Care Specialist

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Respite Care Specialist to join our team at Home of Guiding Hands. As a Respite Care Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing care, supervision, and companionship to individuals with developmental disabilities in their homes and in the community.
Key Responsibilities- Client Safety and Supervision: Maintain a safe environment for clients by providing routine supervision and responding to emergency situations as needed.
- Engagement and Support: Support clients to engage in meaningful activities at home and in the community, promoting their independence and well-being.
- Communication: Engage clients in communication through various methods, including verbal, sign language, gestures, pictures/visuals, and communication devices.
- Daily Living Support: Assist clients with daily living activities, such as bathing and grooming, restroom use and continence management, dressing and undressing, meal preparation and feeding, ambulating (lifting and transferring), and administering medications.
- Behavior Management: Manage challenging behaviors as instructed by primary caregivers.
- Appointments and Transportation: Support clients to participate in routine appointments, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy, and provide transportation to and from appointments.
- Experience: Six months' experience providing care for someone in a personal, volunteer, or paid role, including family care.
- Age and Education: Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Criminal Record Clearance: Must receive criminal record clearance from the Department of Justice.
- Transportation: Must have a valid California driver's license, safe driving record, and have been licensed to drive at least two years. Must also have a safe and reliable vehicle to transport clients.
- Insurance and Certification: Must maintain current and adequate auto insurance and obtain CPR/FA certification if not currently certified.
- Language and Computer Skills: Must be able to proficiently read, write, understand, and speak English and have basic computer skills.
- Reliability and Judgment: Must be highly reliable, able to form positive working relationships, and possess good judgment and decision-making skills.
The work environment for this position involves working with a variety of people in their homes and in the community. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk, hear, walk, bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach, and lift objects weighing up to ten pounds repeatedly during a shift.
