Job Summary

The Licensed Independent Social Worker conducts professional psychosocial assessments, provides diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional disorders in individuals, families, and groups, and participates as an active member of the professional mental health therapy team at St. Luke's corporation.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Master of Social Work Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: Minimum two (2) years of professional experience in the field of mental health with a counseling focus, and satisfactory completion of St. Luke's initiated employment background check pursuant to Minnesota Statute 604.20.
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration: LICSW, and Wisconsin Background Study upon hire and renewed per Wisconsin state law.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Normal and Abnormal Behavior: Understanding of normal and abnormal behavior, psychiatric/mental health, chemical dependency, and other addiction disorders.
  • Therapeutic Treatment Modalities: Familiarity with current therapeutic treatment modalities, family systems theory, group dynamics theory, developmental stages, and life tasks.
  • Legal and Ethical Standards: Knowledge of legal and ethical standards related to professional mental health practice, hospital and community resources, and limits of own professional competencies.
  • Assessment and Treatment: Ability to complete an assessment process, facilitate development of an appropriate treatment plan with the client, establish a therapeutic environment for clients, conduct individual, couples, and family therapy, and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to express self clearly and professionally with physicians and other healthcare professionals, provide educational workshops and in-services, and identify and establish liaison with community resources.
Physical Demands and Environment
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, kneel, or crouch, and bend-repetitive forward.
  • Lifting Requirements: Ability to lift up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Work Environment: Typical noise level is moderate, with examples including a business office with computers and printers, and light traffic.
