The Director of Customs Compliance will play a pivotal role in establishing a premier import compliance framework for our organization, overseeing an impressive annual volume of 20,000 containers and a significant expenditure of $100 million.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and enhance relationships with Customs Brokers, conducting regular performance reviews
  • Establish and implement standard operating procedures and data governance policies within the Import department
  • Act as a liaison between regulatory authorities, trade partners, and internal departments, providing expert customs guidance
  • Ensure compliance with all import and customs regulations
  • Continuously analyze the regulatory landscape, particularly regarding trade tariffs and restrictions, and communicate findings effectively
  • Guide the daily operations of the Customs & Import teams while planning for long-term objectives
  • Collaborate with Distribution, Merchandising, and Finance teams on customs and import compliance matters
  • Conduct site visits to maintain partnerships and provide compliance training
  • Facilitate meetings with governmental agencies to resolve issues and clarify requirements
  • Engage in industry associations to enhance knowledge and promote the brand
  • Provide constructive feedback to regulatory agencies on proposed rules
  • Develop training materials and conduct workshops to ensure compliance standards are met

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Import Customs roles
  • Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, Finance, or Operations
  • Proven experience managing Customs House Brokers and trucking relationships
  • Background in the Retail industry
  • Experience working with Ports, Trucking, and Ocean Carriers
  • Strong leadership skills for cross-functional projects
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while supporting operations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with MS Access is a plus
  • Knowledge across various supply chain domains

Compensation

Base salary range: $100,000 - $165,000, excluding potential commissions and bonuses.
